"The West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner’s (WVOIC) mission is to protect consumers and make sure that insurance companies honor their commitments to policyholders. As consumers in West Virginia recover from disasters, we recognize concerns regarding insurance claim delays and denials. The WVOIC is deeply committed to ensuring that policyholders receive the coverage they are entitled to. At the WVOIC we provide direct assistance to consumers, investigate claims against insurers, monitor insurer conduct, and intervene to resolve disputes. We welcome continued collaboration with federal and local partners. Our purpose remains clear: to protect consumers and ensure a fair and efficient recovery process.”
The Consumer Services Unit of the Life and Health Division is staffed to help consumers with all aspects of their life, health, dental, vision or annuity insurance. A WV consumer, provider or agent can call the Consumer Services team and speak to a trained staff member who will collect information on the issue and then act as a liaison with the insurance company to solve the problem.
Typical calls to the unit would consist of claim denials or underpayments, network concerns, obtaining copies of policies, and general education explaining how a policy works.
