The Self-Insurance Unit is responsible for regulating the employers who currently self-insure their workers' compensation coverage in West Virginia and the employers who no longer self-insure but continue to administer claims incurred during their period of self-insured status. Regulation of the self-insured employers includes: processing new applications for self-insured status, maintaining the Security and Guaranty Risk Pools and reviewing the financial condition of all active self-insured employers on an annual basis.
