DN0059 Manual Classification Code Change for Self Insured Employers
Attention Self-Insured Employers:
The West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner (WVOIC) has made a policy change regarding the use of the non-NCCI classification codes. Effective November 1, 2013, NCCI classification codes (Data Element DN0059) will be required when filing through EDI for the workers’ compensation claims. No other classification codes will be accepted; therefore, it is imperative that proper attention be given to this notice. This change will only affect the dates of injury after November 1, 2013. Prior dates of injury can still be filed with the non-NCCI classification codes.
The private carriers have been required to use the regulated NCCI classification codes when filing workers’ compensation claims since the privatization. The WVOIC will be requiring all carriers, including self-insured employers, to submit with the NCCI classification codes, in order to maintain consistency.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this change, you may contact our help desk at wvoicedi@iso.com. Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Patricia “Patti” A. Burkhart
